Terme Portorož

Terme Portorož

The largest thermal and wellness complex on Slovenia's coast with seawater and mineral pools

Terme Portorož is a 10,000 m² spa complex operated by the LifeClass Hotels & Spa resort group. Located on the Portorož promenade at Obala 33, it sits within walking distance of the central beach. Open year-round, it is the only thermal complex with seawater pools on the Slovenian coast.

The complex includes heated seawater pools, the coast's only thermomineral water pool, a sauna park, seven specialized wellness centers (thalassotherapy, Ayurveda, Thai massage, medical wellness), and a fitness center. Treatments use natural resources from the Sečovlje Salt Pans – salt-pan mud, brine, and Piran salt.

For LifeClass hotel guests, pool access is included in the room rate. External visitors can purchase day passes or individual treatments.

About

What's Here

The complex occupies the Terme & Wellness Palace building, connected by covered walkways to six LifeClass hotels (4-star to 5-star). The main zone features pools: an indoor thermomineral water pool fed from an underground source (32–34 °C / 90–93 °F), heated seawater Sea Spa pools (indoor and outdoor, including a children's pool), and an open sun terrace with loungers. Pools operate daily 8:00 AM–8:00 PM (thermomineral pool: 7:00 AM–9:00 PM).

The sauna park includes a Finnish sauna, salt sauna with Piran salt, thalasso sauna, Turkish hammam, tepidarium, herbal sauna, and ice corner. Open weekdays 2:00–9:00 PM, weekends 10:00 AM–9:00 PM. Seven wellness centers offer treatments from different traditions: thalassotherapy (salt-mud wraps, pearl baths with brine), Ayurveda (abhyangam massage), Thai massage, classic massages, and cosmetology. The medical center treats chronic joint, skin, and respiratory conditions.

The complex also manages the exclusive Meduza Beach – sunbed rental from €20/day (~$22) for hotel guests, with open access for non-guests (equipment rental extra).

History

Past & Present

Portorož's spa tradition dates to the 13th century, when Benedictine monks first used saline mud and seawater from local salt works for healing. During the Austro-Hungarian era in the 19th century, Portorož became an elite resort with the first organized treatment programs based on its marine climate and salt resources.

The modern Terme Portorož complex was developed as part of the LifeClass Hotels & Spa group, which united six promenade hotels and built the centralized Terme & Wellness Palace. The facility has been modernized multiple times – the latest major renovation added the thermomineral pool and expanded the sauna park. Today LifeClass positions Terme Portorož as Slovenia's largest medical wellness center.
