Where to stay in Slovenia?
Slovenia is compact enough to see from one or two bases: Ljubljana for the centre and transport, Bled or Bohinj for the Alps, and a short Adriatic coast around Piran.
- Ljubljana is the walkable, well-connected base for day trips across the country.
- Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj are the alpine bases; Piran is the pretty Venetian-era coast town.
- Hotels, guesthouses, and farm stays (turizem na kmetiji) are all common, the latter great for the countryside.
- Summer is peak, especially Bled; spring and autumn are cheaper and pleasant.
Mid-range and comfortable by Central-European standards — Bled in high summer is the priciest spot; Ljubljana stays reasonable year-round.

Answers to key questions about accommodation booking
Is there a tourist tax?+
Yes, Slovenia charges a tourist tax of €1–3 per person per night depending on the city. Ljubljana charges €3.13, Bled €2.50. Usually paid at check-in.
Where is better to stay – Ljubljana or Bled?+
Ljubljana is a convenient base for the whole country with an urban vibe. Bled is ideal if your priority is the lake and mountains. They're 55 km apart (~50 min by car), so you can base in one.
What are accommodation prices?+
Ljubljana: apartments from €40–60/night, 3-star hotels from €60–90. Bled in summer from €80/night. Maribor, Ptuj – 20–30% cheaper. Coast (Piran, Portorož) in summer from €70.
Booking.com or Trip.com for Slovenia?+
Both work well. Booking.com has more farmhouse stays (turistična kmetija). Trip.com often offers discounts on city hotels.
Are there glamping options in Slovenia?+
Yes, Slovenia is a glamping leader in Europe. Popular spots: Garden Village Bled, Château Ramšak (Maribor), Herbal Glamping Ljubno. Book ahead – spots are limited.
