Switzerland is in the Schengen Area – most non-EU/EEA travelers require a Schengen visa unless covered by a visa-free regime.

June–September for hiking and lakes; December–March for ski season; April–May and October–November are quieter and often cheaper.
Swiss Travel Pass gives unlimited travel + many museums – best for 3+ long travel days and intensive itineraries. Half Fare Card gives ~50% off fares – good for fewer or shorter trips.
Glacier Express, Bernina Express and GoldenPass require or strongly recommend reservations in peak times. Regional and most intercity trains do not.
Motorway charges are often already covered on rental cars – nothing extra to buy. Parking: white lines are paid, blue zones are free with a time-disc limit, yellow means no parking. In winter, rentals come with winter tyres; mountain passes can close and chains may be required where signed.
4G/5G coverage by Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt is excellent. eSIM is convenient for visitors; roaming can be pricier than local or regional plans.
Type J sockets (thin Europlug type C often fits), 230 V, 50 Hz. Pack an adapter.
Service is commonly included. Tipping is optional – rounding up or adding 5–10% is appreciated for good service.
Many shops are closed on Sundays, except at stations, airports and some tourist areas. Plan shopping ahead.
