What's here

What is this place

Murići Beach is a broad natural sand spit on the south shore of Lake Skadar, near the Albanian border. It’s the park’s best-known freshwater swimming spot, with views toward Beška and Starčevo islets.

Key features

  • The lake’s only natural sandy beach – unusual shoreline for Skadar.
  • Shallow, gentle entry – relaxed swimming, family-friendly.
  • Panorama of Beška & Starčevo – boat hops to monastery churches possible.
  • Simple lakeside eatery – carp/eel specialties.
  • Easy self-drive via Virpazar from the Bar–Podgorica road.

What to see

  • Pale sand and clear freshwater with a gradual drop-off.
  • Islets and birdlife over the shallows.
  • Small jetty with boats for short island trips.

History

The south shore has long ties to fishing and monastic islets; Beška and Starčevo, visible from the beach, hold late-medieval churches.

In recent years Murići has grown as a low-key recreation spot within the national park, with light facilities while keeping a natural feel.
