History

The concession was granted in 1890; construction began in 1905, and the funicular with its first summit restaurant opened on 15 May 1908. To protect the landscape, the track was aligned in a quadrant, making it less visible from the valley.

In 1913, the Alpine Wildlife Park opened at the base. Mid-20th century upgrades renewed traction and cars, with further renewals in 1997 and 2008. Today Harder Kulm runs seasonally with extended evening services for sunsets.
