Kamenita plaža

Unique coastal cliffs with a natural "pattern" of layers and folds.

Just a short walk from the promenade lies a striking rock formation. The stone looks like it has been sliced into thin layers, and the play of light and shadow makes the surface even more dramatic. It’s a popular photo stop and a highlight on the walk toward Kamenovo.

Description

What this place is

The Layered Rocks of Rafailovići are a coastal cliff between the eastern end of Bečići Bay and Kamenovo Beach. It’s a natural rock cut with neat “pages” of strata and the famed “Green (Blue) Rock” at the entrance to Rafailovići.

Key features

  • Shoreline outcrop of sedimentary rocks with clearly readable layering – an open-air “geology book”.
  • Sea-carved ledges and cornices forming natural terraces at the water’s edge.
  • Direct access from the Rafailovići promenade and the path towards Kamenovo – an easy short walk.
  • Scenic viewpoints over Cape Zavala, Bečići and Budva Bay.

What to see

  • Layered ledges with alternating hard and softer beds, weathering patterns and wave-cut notches.
  • Coastal panoramas from Budva to Kamenovo.

Geology and formation

The coast here is built of Adriatic sedimentary sequences: sandstones and marls alternate to create a characteristic “layer cake”. These rocks were deposited in an ancient marine environment in horizontal beds.

Subsequent uplift of the shoreline and constant wave action sculpted benches, shelves and notches, highlighting contrasts in rock strength. Colors range from grey-beige to greenish depending on mineral makeup and marine weathering at the waterline.
