Description

What this place is

Mala Plaža is Ulcinj’s in-town sandy beach at the foot of the Old Town. It’s fine-grained, shallow and even, stretching for about 360 m, and functions as the city’s main bathing strip.

Key features

  • Length ~360 m – a compact, central urban beach.
  • Very fine sand both on shore and in the water; gentle seabed slope.
  • Shallow water – suitable for kids and cautious swimmers.
  • Capacity up to ~2,500 bathers – expect crowds in peak season.
  • A small marina anchors one end; cafés, bars and apartments line the promenade behind.

What to see

  • The Old Town skyline directly above the eastern end.
  • The small harbour and seafront walkway at the beach edge.
  • A chain of smaller coves (Skalice, Borići, “Women’s Beach”, Ludvigova, etc.) further south among pines.

History

The sandy strip beneath the fortress long served locals for bathing and boat access; a modest harbour and promenade were later laid out on one end.

In the later 20th century, resort development brought hotels and cafés, cementing Mala Plaža’s role as Ulcinj’s central city beach for residents and visitors.
